CHRIBTCHURCH, August 13. Mr W. E. GudgeoD, the British Resident at Raratonga, ban forwarded through the Governor to the Royal Humane Sooiety for recognition the oase of Valval O Rongo, a Native of Mangaia, who rescued another Native who was capsized in the surf outside the reef. No experienced canoe men would undertake the resoue, and the Native was left struggling in the sea all night. Valval went off the next morning and rescued the man, helped him into his oanoe, and pulled it along three miles to a favorable place for landing.
