CITY" COUNCIL REPORTS.

Tho following reports will be presented to tho City Council at their meeting this evening: The Works Committee report that the surveyor has been instructed to nave the footpath in Eden street extended and a pipe drain la l d in lieu of the present dram in that street; to act as to having repairs effected to the weighbridge house in utuart street; to act as to Mr A. W. M'Donald's application lor permission to lay a drain pipe under the footpath to the street channel from Jus house at the corner cf Albany street and Harbor terrace to carry sink water; to act on application from Mr W. Bull to erect a signbam on the ve.andah in front of his shop iu George street; to" act with the chairman with reference to application from Messrs Joseph E. White and Sons for permission to put a roof of iron over portion of iron fence, to form a shed at tho back of buildings at present being erected for Messrs Bagley and Sons in George street; to act-as to application from Messrs Wright, Stephenson, and Co. for a railway siding in Cumberland and Vogel streets; to act with the chairman with regard to application from Mr Orr Campbell for permission to make alterations to Miss M'Kenzie's house in Lower York place by extending the scullery and making it into a kitchen. Several applications for the erection of buildings had been granted, and one had been declined. All liability has been declined in Mr W. C MacGregor's 'claim on behalf of Mr W. B. Walters for accident while driving along Cumberland street through an alleged projecting sewer ventilator. Mr Jas. Palmer's offer to supply 3,000 cubic yards of bluestono metal has been accepted at the following prices:—No. 1 .district, 1,000 yards at 3s 9d iper yard; No. 2 district, 100 yards at 5s per yard; No. 3 district, tOO yards'at 5s per yard; No. 4 district, 1,500 yards at 3s 9d per yard; the stone to be supplied from Calder's quarry, North-east Valley, Shield's quarry, Caversham, and Palmer's quarry, Logan Point. The Reserves Committee report having instructed tlw surveyor;to act with the mayor as to application from the Rugby Union for the right to use that portion of the Town Belt known as tho "Clear" at Maori Hill iu order to make improvements to the ground and to use it for purposes of football; to act with the mayor as to application from the Alpine Football Club for permission to play on that part of the Town Belt known as "Eglinton"; to act as to having the notice boards and seals iu the Botanical Gardens painted. Mr W. A. M'Lachlan's application to purchase allotment ooa, block 52, Northern Cemetery, has been granted. A letter of thanks has been sent to Dr Coughtrey for his donation of some gladiolius bulbs, a feu- clumps of Montbrotia while convolvulus, everlasting peas, and tropelium for the City reserves. The following tenders for grass-cutting and grazine rights for the year commencing Ist July, 1900. have been accepted:—Grazing: No. 1, Tumbull's paddock, I<. H. Botting, at £3; No. 2, Turnbull's paddock, Jas. Speight and Co., at £B. Grass • No. 3, section, Town Belt, J. Hay, at £1; No. 5, section, Town Belt, P. O'Doiioghuo. n't £t (plantation to be reserved); No. 7, section Town- Belt, Thos. Gordwin, at £4; No. 8 section. Town Belt. M. Dwver, at £3 (subject to Osleu's approval); No. 9. section, Town Belt Daniel Cursey. at £2 10s; N,o. 14. section! North Recreation Reserve. John Barnes, at £5. Mr John H. Allan's tender for a twentyone years' fanning lease of section 15, irreen'ar block. East Taieri district, at a rental of £2O per annum, from the 16th June, 1900 has been accepted. Tenders have be*>n invited and -are receivable at this meeting for a. twentv-nne years' building lease of allotments 90 and 91, sub-division of section 6, block 7, Town district, South Duiiedin.

Tho General Committee recommend that, default having been made by Mr Benjamin Throp to comply with the notice sensed upon liim on the 19th May. 1900. requirincr him to pull down within fourteen days from tho 19th May, 1900, certain buildings standing- upon section 12, block 6, Dunedin, winch had been certified to be in a condition unfit for occupation and daneerous to public health, apolication be made to two justices for an order to pull down the said building and for recovering the costs and expenses which mav be incurred in so doing, pursuant, to sections 302 and 305 of the Municipal Corporations Act, 1886. Duri_nsr the past fortnight cattle. 3.218 sheep, 307 lambs. 143 piUs. and 7A calves were slaughtered at the abattoir, of which 22 cattle were condemned as unfit for food.

The Gas Committee report, having agreed to supnly gas to Mr Hosking's house in Maori road. Montpelier. provided he pavs »aK cost of the main; the service to be laid on the usual terms.

The Water Committee report having granted Mr Chas.
