SYDNEY, June 26 Three fresh cases of plague were reported to-day,, two of these being children —namely, David Perkins (of Red fern) and George Barnes (of Ultimo). The third case is that <>f a man named Stevenson, residing at Waterloo.
Dr Bikewell, of Auckland, writing to the * Herald,' says :—" When I w »a m praefcin London in the fifties and sixties, befor* anrisepttcß' or Liaterism had b>-en hf-ard of, such eases as that of William Kolly were common enough A little wouud o>- enre into which pom- etp ic poison was ahsorbed gave rice to fcvi-r. swelling, and often an t»r»c«ss of. the lym'p'iatic glands next above the wound. Id cises when the p itienr. wa» living in a bad neighborhood iu overcrowded 'housi'B and saturated with gin and beer, blood poiafining ensued, and the patient died. It seems to mo" still possible thit t.h« euspectfd case of plague, may be one of ths kind. I have aeeu mmy such. It strikes me as arrange that the bubo should have b-en only on the side on which the Bore waa. and thit the other glands were not enlarged."
