Details of the capture of the Taku forts show that the Japanese commander was beheaded as he climbed the wall of the northern fort. The Japanese furiously attacked, refusing quarter. TV Chinese commander was killed. ' His family (following a common Chinese custom) subsequently committed suicide. The total killed is said to be 2,000. The Russiaus, British, Germans," and French each retain one of the captured Chinese torpedo destruens. Russian newspapers assume an amusing attitude, taking entire credit for the capture of the forts. ST. PETERSBURG. June 26. The Chinese Le«ation here has received a telegram, dated Sunday, from Li Hung Chanfr. stnt.iug that the European diplomatists at Pekin were safe.
