DUNDAS STREET CHURCH.

The annual tea meeting in connection with the Dundas street Primitive Methodist Church was held in All Saints! Schoolroom last evening; About 350 persons sat down to tea, after which an was made to the church in Dundas street', where a public meeting, presided over by the circuit pastor (the Rev. James Guy), was held. " Several anthems were very well sung by the choir, under the direction of*Mf Robson, the choirmaster, Miss Dyer presiding at the organ. Addresses were" given by tie Rev. Mr Jolly (Soutfi Dunedin Presbyterian Church), the, Rev. Mr Borrie (North-east Valley Presbyterian Church), and by the " Rev. Mr Cossum, the other circuit minister connected with the Dundas street Church^ Tlie financial reports, read by Mr J. W. Roberts, the treasurer, showed that in th« trust account the receipts for the year wew £154 15s Id, and the expenditure £lO4 3« Id, leaving a balance in hand of £SO 12b. In the circuit account the revenue was £409 19s lOd, and the expenditure £396 10s Bd, the balance in hand being £l3 9s 2d. There had been collected for the Indian Famine" Relief Fund £l9 7s6d, for the Mission Fund £35 14s 4d, and for the> relief of a poor woman the. sum of £4; these amounts being quite apart, from those mentioned in connection -with the trust and circuit accounts. It may be mentioned that, leaving the debt on the church out of the question, the liabilities are nil, and the position was regarded so satisfactory that it drew from the chairman the remark that it was the best financial report yet. presented. Mr James Cable, secretary and superintendent of the Sunday school, read the twenty-first, annual report, of which the following is a. summary : The congregations are good, and the weekly offerings and sustentation fund show a steady improvement. The trust treasurer reports a revenue sufficient to meet demauds, and the circuit fund shows a credit balance. The liability of the congregation worshipping here is a practical evidence of. the interest which is being taken in the work of tbe church. The membership roll shows an increase of fourteen. We have had several additions by transfer from other circuits, and have had also to take farewell of some \ of our own people, who have gone to Meide, elsewhere. It is our pleasing duty to record! that our circuit again headed the list of contributors to the New Zealand Primitive Methodist Home Mission Fund, raising the sum of £33 14s 4d for that purpose, and £2 for the African Mission Fund; whilst to* claims of the Indian Famine Rehef have not been forgotten. The work of the Sabbatk school has been carried out faithfully during the year, part of the time under the soperintendency of our well-tried friend Mr W. King, who is now enjoying a trip to tbo .Home Country. The report to Conference showed 23 teachers, 217 scholars, being an increase of 27 scholars on the previous yw, with an income of £36 8s 2d. Several change* have taken'place in the choir. Mr Robson, lormerly assistant conductor, has been appointed conductor in place of Mr Edgar who ha s withdrawn from the position. Mention should here be made of the valuable services rendered by Mr Edgar, which wero duly acknowledged by the trustees, by letter, on his retirement. 'Our organist, M» Irwin Moore, has left the colony for England, and his place has been ablv filled bV Miss Dyer. Previous to Mr Moore's depaX ture he was presented with a purse of sovereigns as a mark of appreciation of his services. The Endeavor societies are still holding on their career of usefulness, and tbe .Literary and Debating Society are an acfciv* organisation.
