She is fitted with Belleville boilers, and has proved herself a most expensive coal consumer. The trip from Portsmouth, including stoppages for trials of the boilers at Malta acd a visit to Batavia, occupied eighty-sii days, of which thirty were devoted to coaliug. She consumed 200 toas of English and 250 tons of colonial coal daily. The cost of the fuel alone ie orer £B,OOO. For this reason the officers are of opinion that the vessel is a complete' failure for long-distance steaming.
