MEETINGS OF SOCIETIES.
A number of Good Templars journeyed to Green Island* on Friday evening to promote the interests of temperance in that distript by the.formation of a lodge there. With this object ill view, an entertainment was held in the schoolroom, which proved a thorough success. Vocal items were rendered by Misses Oliver, Griffiths, and Stubbs, and Messrs Cook, Robertson, Mortimer, Black, and Stubbs; whilst Miss Neil and Messrs Mills and Metson contributed recitations. All the items were heartily enjoyed by those present. Subsequently the Dunedin District Lodge opened a session in the Green Island lodge room (Bro: Mac-, failane, D.D., presiding) for the purpose of initiating those who wished to enter the ranks of the Good Templars. A score of persons having signed the necessary petition, and having been initiated into the Order, formed themselves into a lodge, which will be formally instituted by Bro. L. Maefarlane on Friday next. The proceedings were very enthusiastic, and there is no doubt but that a very strong Good Templar Lodge will in a short time be working in the district.
