A TERRIBLE PASSAGE. The steamer Maroc, which left Newcastle on Friday for Noumea with 16» bullocks and 150 she 'p, put back to Sydney yesterday. She had a terrible time in a gale. She ran into the storm twenty miles out, and was knocking about for three days, most of the time being hove-to. The deck fittings and skylights were smashed, and two boats and the deckhouse, containing all the prnvis.ious, were washed away. The cabins and engine rooms were flooded, and tha vessel was only saved by continuous pumping. Tbe sufferings of a cumber of the ratile battened down in the 'tween decks were fearful. They were hornblv smashed and mangled. Altogether 125 cattle and 40 sheep were washed overboard or killed. A quantity of cargo was damaged. AGROUND ON PATEA BAR. Patea, June 12. The Huia, while loading pipes at Hawera, grounded on the bar this morning. She is not in a dangerous position, and it is expected that she will get off when her load is lightened.
