The alterations necessarv to give effect to the new railway policy' outlined by the Hon. J. G. Ward in his recent speech at Kiverton are announced in Thursdav night's ' Gazette.' The new scale of fares, rates, and chargs will come into force on the 24th inst. Single tickets are to be available for day of issue only. Return tickets are to be issued daily, and are available for day of issue, and if taken out for a distance of ten miles or 'over for three months—that is to say, from the 15th of one month to the 15th, inclusive, of the third succeeding month. But in all cases return tickets issued on the last day of any month are available onjy up to and including the last day of the third succeeding month. Thus, a ticket for fifty miles issued on Novemher 30 is available only up to and including the /ißlh (or in l«n> years the 29th)—being the last day—of February, and a ticket for 250 miles issued on 31st January is available only up to and including 30th Aoril. Tt may also be noted that upon a written order from the officer commanding the district tickets will be issued to volunteers in uniform without charge. Volunteers in uniform travelling to drills, encampments, and rifle contests, when not provided with orders for tickets, will he charged half the ordinary •return fare for the double journey. Where single journey only is made ordinary single fare will be charged.
