I mentioned in my last that tho Vincent Company were “ontnP.” Tho returns for the Inst coupic of weeks bear this out. In feet, I have been aredibly informed that, had the dredge hops tho bottom, the returns on both occasions would have been trdded. Tho river is still high, but is gradually falling, and unless another th ■ w sets in (which is not an altogether unlikely thing to happen/ good old Vincent mflv astonU’h sornn of you lo'k down below. I consider but of comsc this is only an opinion that aim is good buymx even at her present pi ice. Ihe pmtooiis of the Vincent Extended Company s dredge have been ready some time, but no headway has been made with regard to the machinery. A lot of interest is tak> u locally in the progress of this dredge, ns the claim is popularC*’J.J m ' , I ,o . S0, l contain some rich loads. Whether this Is so is a matter which time alone can tell, and fpim present appsaraccs it mav bo a long while la- fore that time! Poor Cornish Points ! The public seem to have made a dead set against this claim; ami the Sdne public, to my thinking, arc laboring under a mnunderstanding. The claim is n,.t the high bank adjoining Hartley and Riley*, but is at the junction of tho ICiwarau with tin? Molyneux. lot of money has been made by sluicing the top, and the early miners wero only stepped by tie* mer. There U nor, a very high bank, and I certainly think, and am not al-isy in thus thinking, that with a powerful up to-;Ute dredge the claim will pay very well; indeed, I venture to say but, as I have not been retained by the company to defend tho claim, enough said. The coal, or more p opetly speaking, lignite, won from the coal pits at Hairy Creek his wonderfully improved U( e . I hear but cannot speak with authority, that it is proposed to amalgamate the three properties into one coacern,,w.ito tile intention of floating a company. H this i? correct tho question arise?: Howv.-ili'it aib'ct tlie price of coal to tho consumer? Mono)H*iy always spells rise; and we may look for a riiu ,R A“’o * UC3 nt Coal Pits Company become an established fact. On the other baud, if tlu re is moio Ihm one company or proprietary, wu mav have our coai_ cheaper— the inevitable remit of competition. Tim price is Ifis per ton now, which W cheap enough in all conscience.
