BRIEF MENTION.

The Wellington case Annie T. Rosa v. the Hon. T. W. Hislop, barrister, claiming damages for the alleged faulty handling of a lawsuit, resulted in the defendant’s favor. Lord and Lady Rinfurly yesterday gave a garden parly, for which 600 invitation# were issued to members of branches of the Mothers’ Mission at Auckland. Wellington fanciers are agitating against the edict of the city authorities that fowls cannot be kept within the city boundary. The quantity of grain waiting shipment at Lyttelton is exceedingly large. All the stores are filled, and it is estimated that they contain altogether over 300,000 sacks. The steamships Claverdon and Fernfield are expected to arrive at Lyttelton shortly to load • oats for the use of the Imperial forces in South Africa. They will take altogether a quantity equal to about 100,000 sacks, about half of which is to be put up in two bushel bags for transport by mules.
