The ‘Tablet’ reports that the new Provincial Ecclesiastical Seminary for the training of priests will be consecrated and opened on May 3. As already stated, Bishop Verdon secured Mosgiel House and twelve acres adjoining, and one of the objects of his visit to Europe was to obtain sufficient clergy to enable him to fill the professorial chairs. It is understood that some six or eight students are ready to enter ■ from the diocese of Dunedin, and some are expected from the other dioceses. The new seminary is under the control and direction of the Catholic hierarchy of New Zealand, and will have, moreover, the great advantage of the nersonal super-vision of Bishop Verdon, who will take up his residence on the spot as rector. .. The Rev. John Ryan will be vicerector, and will bo associated in professorial work with the Rev. M. M. Ryan (now in Queenstown), and the Rev. M. A.’ Headen, who Accompanied Bishop Vordon from Eurone.
