PERSONAL.
At a meeting of the teachers of the Y. W.C.A. Mission Sunday School, held last evening, Sister Sinclair, on the eve of her departure for Europe, was the recipient of a souvenir in the shape of a useful handbag, with accessories, and a few coins of the realm added. In making the presentation the suptr ntendent recalled the fact that Sister Sinclair had succeeded on the teaching staff tha first lady appointed to the Sisters’ Mission in Dunedin—viz , Miss Raeburn. He referred in complimentary terms tq Mias Sinclair’s faithful services as a teacher during the past eight years, and voiced the desire of her fellow-teachers present in expressing the hope that, benefited by the training and experience which she was going to obtain in the Home Country, she might be spared to return and resume the work which she had so efficiently done in this Gity. Miss Sinclair thanked her fellow-teachers for their gifts and good wishes. A very pleasant evening was then spent in social intercourse.
When public interest was first directed to sending a little band of nurses to the seat of War in South Africa, among those who Volunteered were Miss B. M. Statham and Miss E. Rigg. These ladies were not selected, but, it having become known that they had persevered in their determination to go, .and were only merely awaiting a steamer to' go to tbe front, a number of friends clubbed together, and as a result a substantial testimonial in the form of a purse of sovereigns was raised, and yesterday afternoon His Worship the Mayor'made the presentation, It was not a public function, ■ but the donors were represented by His Worship, Mr D. B. Eunson, and Mrs, Prictor, who was one of those ladie r s who interested themselves in the movement, V 1 At a social meeting held by the Port Chalmers hiavals, P.O. Crawford, on the eve of his marriage, was presented by the ihembfers of the corps with a marble clock. OP.O. Montgomery spoke in fiatterfng terms of the'high esteem jh which P.O Crawford is held by the members of the cotps. ’
