THE DAIRY INDUSTRY.
[Special to the Stab.] WELLINGTON, February 20. Mr Riddick, Government Dairy Commissioner, proceeds on another official tour between Wellington and New Plymouth tomorrow. Ho will be accompanied by Mr O'Callaghan, chief dairy expert for New South Wales, who is in quest of information on scientific dairying and cheese-making. Our Dairy Commissioner has infused new life into his department since the Premier wisely selected him for the work. Mr Riddick was one of the most eminent experts in the dairying industry in Canada," and even now his reports are often quoted—in fact, the dairying section of the Agricultural Department is the most thoroughly practical of all, and is a model of utility to the other sections. Under Mr Riddick's supervision the industry has made extraordinary progress and resulted in a large increase in* the products and wealth of the colony. Some of the other sections would be none the worse for being galvanised into life. I am glad to learn that, in addition to a large expansion of the local demand, the exports to Sydney and the Cape are rapidly improving.
