We learn with regret that Mrs Batchelor wife of Dr Bnchflor, of this City, died at, Citro from pneumonia, word to that effsct having b-en received in town this morning. Mrs Bachelor, with Miss Bachelor, had male a call at Cairo, en route for England, where Dr Bitchelor, juu , is professionally CDC'-.prpd. On Friday, 9th inat, in the Green Island Presbyterian Church, Miss Bremner, on leaviDg the district, was the recipient of a handsomo writing casp, suitably inscribed, from the Endeavor Society end Sunday school teachers. In the absence of Dr Walt, Mr Graham (superintendent of the Snndny school) made the presentation. He spoke of the high esteem in which Mies Bremner was held, aud of the valuable work dono by her in the Sunday school and Christian Endeavor Society. Mr Harbison suitably responded on behalf of the recipient, aud duriog the evening items wero rendered by Misses Blair (2), Walker, and Herbison, and Messrs A. Love, D. Love, and J. Graham. SLY C-SOG : SELLINCi. <» AUCKLAND, February 19 At the Police Court Mary Dooley was fined £lO aud cos's for sly grog-selling. Two similar chargen against other womvii were dismissed. The Bench commented very strongly on the police methods of obtaining evidence adopted in these cases.
