Six-day bicycle races having been legislated against as brutal, the contest this year (viys the N-w York correspondent of the ‘Morning Leader’) was started with men competing in piiirs. Each rider is consequently only twelve hours a day on the track, but the brutality of the contest is thereby only increased. The competitors ride at a terrific pace around the small boarded track, and probably some 3,000 miles will ba covered by the end of the week. The men eat a-wheel. One day two riders while catching food thrown to them swerved aud fell from their bicycles, both men be : ng badly injured. The ‘ Journal ’ affirms that morphine injections were used on the Frenchman Pertain, whose trainers insisted on his earning his pisssgo money home. The riders seemed dezed and semi blind as they pursued their wild course round the track."
W. Martin estab’Lhcd a gond ride up at E iglebawk (Victoria) during the Christmas holidays, riding a mile on a wet track in Imin 49 4-sjcc behind a Dunlop motor. The ride was all the more creditable on account of Marlin'having previously ridden in several hard races during the afternoon.
