CONCERT AT PORT CHALMERS.
A patriotic concert was held in the Garrison Hall at Port Chalmers yesterday evening. The building was neatly decorated, ami there was a very large audience present. Dr Hendry acted as conductor, and Mrs Jack was accompanist. The several items were excellently rendered, and the audience were hugely pleased. The Port Garrison Band were in attendance, and opened the programme by playing a selection,* after which the Mayor (Mr D. A. De Mau»), who presided, expressed the pleasure he felt at seeing so large an audience. The purpose for which the concert was given was a patriotic one, and it proved the interest taken by the Port Chalmois people that there were so many of them present. In the first part Mrs Jock, Mies Annie Marks, Messrs F. Hendry, and C. Morton, the Wesleyan choir, Mrs T. M'Conue I, Mrs Gilmour, and Mias Weir took part. After a short-interval, during which a collection was m tde, the seco. d part of the programme was opened by an aithcm rendered by the Presbyterian and Congregational choirs, Mies Ray DavisMarts then t|mg ' Rule Britannia,’ all present joining in the chorus. Mesdames G' Hendry, Jack, and Howden, with Mias NcGon, Messrs Cleghorn, J. A. Geerin, and the Presbyterian choir, also took part, and prior to the closing item the Mayor thanked the audience for their presence, and the ladies and gentlemen who had taken part in the entertainment, 'which had resulted in £l7 being added to the funds. He stated that the Committee were greatly indebted to Miss Geerin for the trouble she had taken, and to tho Uuirn Company for sending a number of their men to decorate the hail. JBe called for three cheers for the Misses Geerin ‘ and for the Union S.S. Compsny.
