The chairman of the Congregational Union for the ensuing year is tho Rev. J. Rout Gl .s----son. and the Rev. F. Warner has been reelected secretary, Alcssrs AV, H. Lyon and Bowden treasurers, and Mr W. M. Trigg registrar. A committee of thirty was chosen.” It was derided (0 meet, at Christchurch next year. The following motion was carried, after some discussion;—“ That it is expedient that the reading of selected portions of the Biblo should form part of tlie instruction in the public schools of the colony; that no explanation bo allowed, except such as is necessary for the comprehension of the toxi. the literary and historical matter, and the obvious moral lessons contained in Hip text, and that any kind of religious and theological instruction or comment should be strictly excluded; that in our judgment the following volumes of the modern readers (Bible series) arc worthy of consideration as containing suitable portions of tho Bible for this purpose—Bible stories, Old and New Testaments: Masterpieces of HlO Bible.” The Union have just concluded their session at Wellington.
