From the above entries it will be seen that the club are bound to have a very successful meeting, as they comprise the pick of the racing men in New Zealand and several others who have lately come to the front. The inclusion of Sutherland and Walne ought to be sufficient to induce a large attendance, outside of- the very desirable object to which the proceeds are to be devoted. The final arrangements are now thoroughly in hand, and tickets have been distributed thre the various shops in the City, so that the public will be able to obtain these without the usual difficulty occurring at the gates.. The promise of fine weather by Mr Paulin has been obtained, and, that being so, we trust the public will roll up in Urge numbers to assist the Contingent’s funds in a large degree. The first race starts punctually at 2 30 p.m., aud the meeting will conclude at five sharp. The following are the handicaps for the running events:—

1 here is a probability of the Contingent men having a race for them put on the programme, and arrangements are being made for this event to be introduced. Post entries will be accepted for it, and there is every chance of a big field being secured. The sub-committee appointed by the Contingent’s Organising Committee viz., Messrs T. Mackenzie, J. Park Sthith, and G. P. M. Butterworth—are trying to arrange for the volunteers selected to grace the gathering with their presence.
At the Egmont summer meeting yesterday Coronet (9 6) won the Cup in 2min 39sec, paying a dividend of £l2 16 1. The situations were filled by TortulU (8 11) and Will-o’-the-Wisp (712). Other winners : Hack Hurdles, Kaimate (£2) ; Sires’ Hack Produce Stakes, Gipsy Queen (£5 I6i) • Hawera Welter, Gowrie (£9 17s); Second Hack Flat, Dartmoor (£4 15-). A race meeting was to have been held at Sydney yesterday in aid of the Bushmen’s Contingent Fund. The programme includes a race (limited to twenty entries) for horses selected for service in South Africa, to be ridden by members of thcßushmen’e Corps. Ihe editor of ‘Cnumi’ invited his readers to select the ten recreations they preferred out of a list of twenty-two supplied by himself. The result was that football led the way, with cricket second, and cycling third. I I spite of adverse elements the. Clutha Hack Racing Club have reason to be antisfied with Friday’s meeting, the revenue derived from which (£65), with the addition of members’ subscriptions, will suffice to ray stakes and expenses in connection with the meeting, and go a long way towards raying off the debt on the course. Mr A. Richardson’s Tommy won the Clutha Cup, Little Bub the Flying, Beacon'field the Two-mile Trot, St. Valentine the Shorts, and Bendigo the Mile Trot.
