“ Ladies’day ”at the D.A, b .0. shed on Saturday found the Committee prepared with a capital programme, and as those in charge of the arrangemente wore prepared equally with the guest to “ never ralnd.th.e weather ” the affair went off with spirits and all present voted it a pleasant afternoon. Tho proceedings were under thijrcontrol of an energetic subcommittee Aousisling of Messrs L). JScurr, J. Williaufs, J. Brown, F. 0. Dawson, and A fouroared inripged gig raofor which throe crews Blurted, • was got off, and a greasy pole competition followed, these events being superintended by Mr J. Isaacs ; but tho heavy weather necessitated the abandoning of UlO remainder of the . outdoor sports, and the company repaired to tho tocial hall, where a musical programme was carried out under tho guidance of Mr J. S. A r atcs, assisted by Mr Flint’s orchestra and several singers and recil. re. Between the items refreshments were hano..i round by an indefatigable staff of club men, who were unceasing in their efforts to hccuio the comfort of all. During tho ufterui on Mr W, L. Hooper took occasion, on bet alt of the members, to extend a beany welcome to the guests, and expressed the opinion Ihi t as long as their lady friends took an interest in the club’s welfare members wou d endeavor to maintain the club’s higli ropntatiou. A dance was held in the evmin*. Tho Dunedin Amateur Boating (Jlut’s double-sculling event, postponed from ladies’ day, resulted as follows :—ln the semi-final Parker and Caldow beat Bond and Kin;, and Scurr and Wateon beat Wilhclmeon and Wares. In the final heat, rowed onTu>s day evening, a good race was witnessed Mr J. Isaacs started tho crews well uivto time. Bcurr, null a larger experience, gtfc a slight advantage, but wts-spon oyerhaul d by Parker, who, with his mate,V«& showing good slyh. Parker led by a very 'alight! margin until entering the wharves, when Scurr’a strength told, and he calling on hbi. bow forged ahead, and staved off Parker’s final effort, winning by about three foet amidst great excitement, the resplt being T. The first round of the Club’s Dingey Race has been got through, with t.ho following result:—J. Thompson (4scc) b:afc P. Williams (IGseo); L. Maclean (3icc) beat T. J. Stevenson (12acc); R. Strang (7«ec) boat AV. Weir (3«-c); R. L- Caldow (12sec) beat C. Parker (3sec); J. Foote (12sen) beat J. Burgess (20seo); T. Bond (I2?cc) beat J. M. Paterson (7sec) ; AV. Hall (7sec) beat M.
