THE THIRD CONTINGENT.
HANDSOME INDEED,
CHRISTCHURCH, February 6. Three brothers named M'Farlane, Amnri station-holders, have each contributed £250 to the Canterbury War Fund, making £750 in all.
The utmost enthusiasm prevails regarding the Third Contingent, as it is recognised that the men’s services in South Africa will be invaluable.
WELLINGTON, February 6. The Contingent leaving by the Knight Templar will be composed of men from the following plscss : Christchurch, 102 ; VVanganui, Taranaki, and Feilcting, 70; Napier, 40; Gisborne, 10; Westland, 10; Westport, 6 The Wellington, C:ago, and other drafts will have to wait for the transport which the Government have asked the Imperial authorities to provide. The Government have informed the Wellington Committee that it was never intended to relievo them of any part of the preparation, and they must do as other places have done. The Government would pay the men as soon as they got aboard the steamer.
NEW PLYMOUTH, February 6. The New Plymouth quota of the Third Contingent received an enthusiastic send-off this morning. The mayor addressed the men, and two brass bauds attended. Eleven men left for Wanganui, where the final t;at will bo made.
