LONDON, February. 5. The ‘Standard’s’ correspondent at Durban states that the Armstrong Elswick Company, in November last, offered to lend tbe Natal Government a number of Hotchkiss guns. The offer was tardily accepted, but tbs guns meanwhile had been presented to the New Zealand Contingent, OYER-EAGER CORRESPONDENTS. LONDON, February 5. The War Office does not confirm the news of General Bailer’s advance. “TOMMY” AND “OUR BOYS.’” SYDNEY, February 6, The ‘Sydney Morning Herald’s’ special, writing from Rondsburg, says that our troops and the “Tommies” do not fraternize much, nor do they seem to take to each other. The general cry is : “We want more colonials for scouting.” The work of the New Zealanders and the Now South Wales Lancers is recognised as invaluable in its special lino. A COLONIAL OFFICER. LONDON, February 5. Lieutenant Hawker, of Adelaide, who is at present in London, joins the South Australian Contingent at the front. ADELAlDE,‘February 6. Lieutenant Hawker, who is on the retired list of the Royal Navy, cabled for and obtained leave to join the South Australian Contingent at the front. PUTTING IN TIME. CAPE TOWN, February 5. A team of cricketers from the Australian troops are playing a match against a Prieska team on the Orange River.
