Pareugareuga and Te Kao, in the far north, have subscribed £2O Is (id to the Patriotic Fund, and forwarded the amount through the local telegraph offhe. In a letter accompanying the. donation they said that they had subscribed the amount as a token of their love and sympathy for their mother the Queen to help her wounded soldiers and those who might, become widows through the war in South Africa. I understand that the Hon. J. Carroll, Native Minister, has received many letters from Maoris in all parts of the colony expressing their loyalty to the Queen and offering to subscribe money and horses.

The whole of the proceeds are to bo devoted to the Rough Riders' Contingent Fund. The total amount collected by subscriptions and raised by sale of ribbons and refreshments at sports, etc., in the Balfour and Cattle Flat districts is £lO3.

The sum of £S6 has been collected for the Patriotic Fund at the Hillside Railway Workshops, and in addition the men will give regular monthly subscriptions while the war lasts.
