THE THIRD CONTINGENT.
A OLUTHA LAD VOLUNTEERS. [From Our Own Reporter,] BALCLUTHA, January 31. On arrival at Balclutba the Ksitangata Band were drawn up on the platform and played the National Anthem. Mayor M'Nell weloomed the Premier, and expressed regret that Mr Seddon was unable to stay and take part in the festivities of the day, which ib was hoped would be the means of sending more Clulha boya to fight the Queen's enomieß. A young man named Charles Duff Burgess was introduced to the Premier as anxious to serve with the Rough Riders. Mr Seddon suggested that if there were men in the Clutha anxious to join the Third Contingent a local committee should be formed, and if they had men or money to send, the names of the former should be forwarded to the Government, who would be quite pre. pared to help them. Burgeßß should see the local committee and the mayor. The applicant thanked Mr Seddon, and the latter remarked, as the train drew out: "We must put down the Boers !"
