AGRICULTURAL STATISTICS.

WELLINGTON, January 30. The interim report on the agricultural and pastoral statistics of the colony for 1899-1900 contains tables showing the area under grain crops and the estimated yield of wheat, oats, aod barley for threshing; also the quantity of wheat on hand on the 30r,h November, 1899. The returns are : Wheat.—Under crop, 265,349 acres ; estimated yield, 29 bushels per acre ; total expected yield / ,6'J5,121 bushels. Oats. Under crop, 395,075 acres ; estimated V. e i2' : \ bu6n els per acre; total expected yield, 14,250,100 bushels. Barley.-Under crop, 46.577 acres; estimated Vr) ?.„;>» bushels per acre; total expected yield, 1,51b,941 bushels. In the New Zealand ' Gezette' of the 14th July, 1899, the wheat in hand available for all purposes, as from the 28tb February, 1599, was stated at 13,308,214 bushels. This has been disposed ot as follows :—For seed, 265,959 acres at two bnshels per acre, 531,91S bushels ; consumption for a population of 790,000 at six bushels for nine months, 3,555,000; wlieaj; and flour exported from the 28th February to the 30th November, 1899, 2,718,803 bushels; total, 6,805,721 ; leaving on hand at the 30th November, 1899, 6,502,493 bushels. The amount, however, returned as on hand at that date is 4,863,145 bushels, leaving a deficit of 1,639,348 bushels. It is evident the wheat on hand unthreshed has been largely under-estimated, in addition to which a considerable quantity was damaged both in the stook and stack, and in "all probability much of this has not been returned. Under the head of corn crops sown or intended to be sown the following increases are shown : 'VVheat.— For feeding down with stock, 41 bushels; quantity of grain now on hand in bushels, 3,211,108. Uats.—fi'or ensilage. 351 acres; quantity now on hand in bushels, 1,785,582. Barley.—For threshing, 1,206; quantity now on hand m bushels, 221,5:J2. Rye.-For ensilage, 29 acres; for feeding down with stock, 1,1i23; quantity on hand, 5,400 bushels. Maize.—For feeding down -with stock, 213 acres ; quantity on hand in bushels, 59,157. Peas.-For threshing, 1,632 acres ; for onsilaKe. bl); for feeding down with stock, 198; quantity on hand, 9,505 bushels. Beans.—For threshing, 190; for ensilage, 2quantity on hand, 11,765. Vetches or Tares.—For threshing, 55 acres ; for ensilage, 28 ; quantity on hind, 259. -o^i. n A eed ; "7 Acrea se, 151; quantity on band, <s,ns4 bushels. Hops.-Acreage, 43; quantity now on hand in Other Crops.—Acreage for chaffing, 5. The decreases were as follow : • Wheat. - For threshing. 133,685 acres; for chattiDg,/o3; for ensilage, 36. .jgOAts.-For threshing, 21,345 acres; for chaffing, Barley.—For ensilage, S6 acres. Maize.—For threshing, 1,561. Vetches or Tares.—Feeding down with stock, S6 Other Crops.-For threshing. 165 acres; ensilage, 21; feeding down with stock, 50.
