The Chief Inspector of Machinery (Mr Robert Duncan) has been elected a member of the Institution of Engineers and Shipbuilders in Scotland.

Mr J. Hislop, shorthand, writer and typist of the local district railway traffic department, has been attached to the staff of the Hon. J. G. Ward, Minister of Railways. The Hon. G. H. Reid, ex-Premier of New South Wales, proceeded to Christcburch by train to-day. Constable O'Sullivan (late of Green Island) will be stationed at Ravensbourne, and Constable Connor, at present at the latter Btntion, will ccme to town.
