THE POST OFFICE.

TO THE BDITOB. Sir,—Your correspondent " New Chum" gives an amusing account of the Btupidity of Dunedin letter-carriers, and, by implication, of their office superiors, who evidently mußt have as great a horror of Stoue'a Directory as the Boers are said to have of water. My complaint is of a different character to that of "New Chum." Mornington Borough was for long left t« a Bolitary letter-carrier. After an agitatio> t carried on for months, a second was aipointed, with the satisfactory result that the residents could rely on getting their letters not later than noon, instead of, as previously, at all hours in the afternoon. This satisfactory chaDge lasted for nearly a year, until a few months ago an unaccountable alteration took place. Two carriers might still be seen, hut letters were gradually being delivered later and later. It was difficult to get at the reason for the delay, "heavy mails" being the excuse for, some time, but I Buppoße the men are intruded to give no information. Persistent inquiry over the district, however, at last revealed the fact that the two Mornington carriers have had their districts extended, until as far as Ogg's corner in South Dunedin is now assigned to them. Residing in the most central part of Mornington, I seldom, if ever, receive my letters until !nog past mid-day. If those having complaiutswould watt on the Hon. MrWard next time he visits Dunedin, doubtleßS he would make it his business to see that more common sense and consideration for the public convenience is allowed to permeate the Dunedin office.—l am, etc , Mornington. January 4.
