CRICKET CHATTER.
H G. Woodcock, of the G.E R. Locomotive Club (Cambridge, England), has been making some wonderful hifca. Oa a recent occasion he made one hit for which he was crediu-1 on thu score theer, with 10, and on Sep'.etntai- 2 hia score of 65 included an 8, a 7, and two s'a. One of his hits went clean into the tent, where ib struck a man's pocket containing a box of matches, which ignited. We understand that Mr A. Fairbairn, in tendering his position as one of the Otago delegates to the Cricket Council, expressed his > egret that he could not see his way to continue to act, and added : "My reason for taking this step ia the treatment measured out io my co-delegate for last year, Mr F. C. Raphael. This gentleman has, during his term of office, attended every meeting held by the New Zealand Cricket Council, and has on all occasions worthily represented Osago'a interests, and I certainly think that if your Committee considered a change desirable it would only have been a courteous act to have given Mr Raphael some reason for the change, and to have thanked him for past services." At a meeting of the Otago Cricket Association last night it was decided to make a Northern tcur this season, matches to be played at Chriatchurch, Wellington, Napier, and Auckland. It is understood that the player 3 to ba selected will be willing to bear a proportion of the expense of the trip, and this, with the funds at present in hand, will leave a balance of about £IOO to ba raised from supporters of the game.—The Oceana Club having disbanded, and notified their withdrawal from the fixtures in junior Qhanr pionship, it-, waß arranged that there should be twu byes in this championship; bub, in the event of there being a wicket available after all other matches had been arranged, it was suggested that the two teams without fixtures should play one another.—The delegates were urged to get their clubs to send a few members to the Umpires' Association. If that be not done the Umpires' Association will have to disband, as they are unable to carry on with the present number.
