I)r Luegar, the anti-Semite, is Burgomvjicr of Vienna. Three soldiers onoe I waited on him as a deputation, and before ! dismissing them he said to the first one: " What would you do if the Emperor ordered you to shoot the Burgomaster of Vienna?" "I should shoot the Burgomaster," was the stolid reply. "Oh," said the doctor, "what is your religion?'' "I am a Protc stant." "In that case lam only slightly surprised at you," said the Burgomaster. Then he turned to the second soldier and asked what he would do if he received such an order. "I'' the Emperor ordered me to shoot the Burgomaster, I should obey orders." " And what is your religion ?" lam a Roman Catholic," replied the man. "In that case lam exceedingly surprised at you." The doctor then put the question to the third soldier, who • epiied: "1 should not shoot the Burgomaster." "Ob," said the Burgomaster, " and why not, my friend ? What is your religion?" "I am a Jew." "What!" said the doctor, "do you know that lam the greatest anti-Semite in all Austria and all Hungary ? And you woulft not shoot me S" " I haven't a rifle," said the man; " I am a dru nmer."
