ABATTOIRS FOR NELSON.
The Committee of the Nelson City Council appointed in January to consider the ques« tion of abattoirs recommended to the County Council on Friday that steps Bhould be taken at once to establish abattoirs, and that fiftyfive acres belonging to Mr Trask be pur« chased for the purpose at a cost of £2,100, and that the ratepayers be asked to sanction a loan of £7,500 at 4 per oent., interest to be aecured by a special rate of IJI in the £. The report embodied a report by Mr Gilruth on the present/ slaughter-houses, which was of t a very unfavorable oharaoter. Ihe Council decided to discuss the proposal at a special meeting next Tuesday. The Council alao decided to purchase the Sto'- e sandhills .and foreshore for £3OO for a public recreation ground,
