THE DUCKENFIELD ENGAGED FOR THE SEARCH.

SYDNEY, Mat 14. Messrs J. and A. Brown, tug-boat proprietors, have received a cable from the London underwriters asking them to have a search made for the Perthshire. They will despatch the steamer Duckeniield tomorrow to thoroughly search the Tasman Sea. An officer of the Underwriters' Association accompanies the steamer.

The Premier, while at Pahiatua on Saturday, received the following cablegram from Chief-Secretary Brunker, at Sydney:— "Great anx.oty experienced here respecting steamer Perthshire, considerably overdue at Bluff. Suggest Bearch at your end advisable." To which Mr Seddon replied that instructions had already been given to the master of a steamer leaving the Bluff for the Sounds to make a careful search for the missing vessel, and that the Government steamer Hinemoa, on her return to Greymouth in the course of a day or two, would also be sent in bearch.

WESTPORT, May 15. The Hinemoa has sailed on a week't* cruiße in search of the Perthshire. '

INVERCARGILL, May 15. The steamer Wakatipu, which arrived at the Bluff lroin Melbourne this afterLO n, saw nothing of the Perthshire.

An Association message says it has b ?en arranged that the Hinemoa should start from Westport to-day, and examine the West Coast and also the Solandera and Stewart Island in search of the Perthshire.
