A TRYING PRED, CAMENT.
There are many situations in which a man may be jilaced and his self-composure put to a severe test; but to feel the keenest edge of Fate’s vindictiveness one must have charge of an unmanageable motor car in a busy London thoroughfare. A gentleman found himself in this predicament recently in 1 iccadilly, His motor car, containing himself and two ladies, became unmanageable opposite Park lane, and after running an eccentric course through the traffic finished up by trying to overturn-the Wellington statue. This effort failed. Now the full ignominy of the situation was expenenced. Horses were obtained from a neighboring stable and harnessed to the derelict motor, and the erring machine was dragged, to the seclusion of a mews. Oh ! the gffies of the busmen and the jeers of the cabbies ! The only , thing that saved the melancholy procession from absolute dejectmn of spirit was the triumphant curl of pride that marked the lips of the salving horses.
