SPECIAL TELEGRAMS.
WELLINGTON, April 10. The Premier addresses a meeting at New Plymouth at the end of the week. The Bank of New Zealand has only closed the Kurow and South Dunedin branches. Hastings will be visited weekly by an officer from Napier, and others once or twice weekly from the nearest bank.
The Labor Department will be provided with new offices at the old ‘ New Zealand Times’ Office, Lambton Quay. A very ornate certificate of the Premier’s honorary membership of the Dock Wharf Laborers’ Union has arrived. It is signel by Ben Tillett.
The Hon. J. M'Kenzie leaves for Auckland on Thursday. The proposed fortnightly San Francisco mail service is hung up until Parliament meets.
I have the Premier’s authority for stating that the Government made no new promises to General Booth except that they would continue special grants by Parliament of £SOO for prison brigade work and £250 for refuge work.
