WORK AND WAGES.

The monthly meeting of the Dunedin Bakers and Pastrycooks’ Union was held on Saturday. A very large nnmber of members were present, Mr W. O. Simpson presiding. The inward correspondence consisted of a memo from the Christchurch Progressive Liberal Association re taxation. The following resolution was curried unanimously; —“ That this nnion strongly protest against the farther continuance of the present enormously high duties on the necessaries of life —food and light—seeing that these fall with greatest severity on those least able to them ; and they call on Parliament to take steps to have the duty on some of the newsseries of life ie•novel.”

The Wellington grocers’ assistants hay* decided to form a union.
