LAWN TENNIS.
Additional interest will centre in the approaching championship tournament through the presence of 11. A. Parker (1895 champion), Patrick Marshall, and Peacock—all from Auckland. This will be Parker's first appcarHRce here. He plays with wonderful dasli and accuracy, and his methods are sucn as will astonish those who have not previously seen them employed. He and Marshall are excellent double "players, and a mooting between them and the Gores, or Collins and Cox. should furnish a brilliant exposition of the double game. The entries from Canterbury and the North Island aro very largo, and include nearly every player in the front rank. There wUI be epiite sixty risking competitors. Tho handicapping is in the hands of Mr E. J. Rosa, of Cliristchurch, who has rendered good service in that direction for some years past. During the tournament a meeting of the New Zealand Association will be held, at which ■several amendments to the rules will be proposed, including one providing for the institution of a banner, to be competed for annually by tho representatives of each provincial association.
