' The Napier arrived at the Rattray street wharf ati a.m. to-day from Waikawa, with 29,000 ft of timber. She will lie laid up fur a few days. The Herald, after having been delayed for a day, left this afternoon fur Greymouth via way ports. Mr Hyne, who was master of the ship Soukar on her homeward voyage last year, is supposed to be coming out in her this trip in the capacity or Flora, from Auckland and hist Coast ports, arrived .•doLgddt the Rattray street wharf at 11.30 a.m. to-day. she left Auckla. d at 12.H0,fcffi. on the 12th Hist., railing at Gisborne, NaprtlrWol-

Mr Wylie, atone time chief officer of the Tasmania, is now in command of the Huddart-Parker steamer Excelsior, running between Melbourne and Geelong. w . The Corinna will arrive to morrow from Westport. TlfE LAKE ONTARIO. All hope has been given up of ever again seeing the barque Lake Ontario, which left Liverpool on the °sth of April for Wellington and this port. The “ weather has been of a most severe kind this year, ns all the vessels arriving of late have reported most tempestuous times. The ship Turakinn, which arrived hero at the beginning of the month, and "hich left London on the same date as the Lake Ontario, had to put into Algoa Bay (South Africa) in a disabled state. The ship Sonkar, which left London in June for this port, has, judging by the report published elsewhere, had a . most trying experience. It was stated some time ago that she had to put into Mauritua damaged and now the latest report received by the local agents states that she had six men washed overboard, while the captain had two legs broken. All the circumstances, therefore, seem to point to the Lake Ontairo having encountered similar weather, in which she has unfortunately foundered. THE WAIIIORA FLOATED OFF. After being aground in the harbor for twentylive hours the Waihora was tloatcd off at high tide at about half-past five last evening, when the combined horse-power of the Waihora, Herald, and tugs Koputai and Plucky was applied with the desired eflect. During the course of the day the work of lightening was proceeded with till only about 150 tons rvere left in the forehold. The ballast tanks were pumped out, and the vessel rose about ISin. The tugs proceeded down the harbor betw, eu four and five o’clock, and their operations were watched by a large crowd on shore. The Koputai was made fast on the starboard side, the Herald on the port side, and the tug Plucky astern, so as to tow her to town. When once the pulling strength of something near J.OOO horse-power was put m the steamer was felt shaking with the throbs of her o\vn vrupelU v, aiul gradually glided into the channel She was thou hacked slowly towards the wharves, and after a little difficulty she was berthed at the Victoria wharf. After reloading her cargo she steamed down to Port Chalmers this luorniu", and left in the afternoon for .Sydney via Auckland and nay ports, after having been delayed for two days.
