WORK AND WAGES.
AUCKLAND, October 7. At a meeting of the Auckland Trades and labor Council the following resolutions were carried :—(1) "That tho attention of the Council has been drawn to the lojjg hours worked by tramway and bus drivers, who are reported to be on duty from 7 a.m. till the small hours of the following morning.' (2) " That this Council is of opinion that a provision be put in all future subsidies to exhibition committees in the colonies that in the event of the exhibition being a financial success the Committee refund the amount guaranteed by the Government.' (3) " That this Council notices with regret a letter in the daily papers stating that the Auckland Exhibition Committee are offering 30s per week for doorkeepers and other attendants, who are to be on duty twelve hours per day, and are also required to find bonds for their honesty." (4) "That this Council urges on the Government to do their utmost to pass the Kauri Gum Industry B ; 'l *his Bession, and more especially clause
