NEW YORK, October 7,
One hundred infantry under General Bacon fell into an ambush in Minnesota. It is feared all were massacred. Reinforcements are being hurried to the scene of the outbreak. The cause is supposed to be due to the Chippeways resenting the suppression of illicit liquor sales.

Later reports from Minnesota state that General Bacon is safe. The Indians have been reinforced and the rising is spreading.
