The barque Cloud, which was here a short time ago, is to load guano at Bunker Island for DunThe Prinz Heinrich, one of the North German Lloyd mail boats, had a terrible time in a typhoon in the China Sea on a recent trip from the East. It was after leaving Hongkong that the steamer met a storm, and was hove-tb. The storm lasted about ten hours, during which time the ship behaved well, nlthough she rolled considerably, and her decks, high as they are, were constantly washed. The only accident occurred to one of the stewards, who was injured by the fall of a lamp, aud to the wife of Governor-General Augusts, who was thrown violently to the deck and broke her arm. The next foreign vessels expected are the barque Liv, now 105 days out from Hamburg ; the ship Turakina, from London, which put into Algoa Bay; and the ship Norwood, from New York via Lvttelton. , 'the barque which was reported passing Gape Sauuder* yesterday afternoon must have been bound to one of tho Northern ports, as nothing could be seen of her from the Ueadu this morning. The Poberua. from Fiji and Northern ports, is expected to arrive in town to-morrow morning. The B,s. Adelaide, which arrived at Adelaide on the night of September 2?, in tow of thea.s. La Serena, had a very rough time. She had put into Albany with her steering gear damaged, and after temporary repairs left Albany on September 10 under escort of the La Serena. In a very few hours the starboard steering gear went wrong, ft Was repaired, and then the port steering gear carried away. After repairs had been effected the 4in steering wires snapped. Then the La Serena took the Adelaide in tow, While being towpi the steering wires were replaced by mooring Chains, which were considered strong onough to stand any strain, and the La Herona'n towing hawser was cast off. After a day's steaming the Adelaide's port chain carried away, and as a severe gale was blowing, with a high sea running, the vessel hove-to. To keep the Rea down oil was thrown on the waters. The gale moderated on Soptembor 18, and although a heavy sea was running hawsers wore, with considerable diftioulty, again made fast, and tho La Serena then towed the Adelaide to Port Adelaide, a distance of 1,100 miles. It was first intended that the steamers Should proceed direct to Melbourne, but the prosvixt of dirty weather decided the captains that the best c.o,ur,;e was to run to shelter. The National Mortgage and Agency Company have received cable advice from London to-day that the Soukar, from Glasgow, which was due at Otago in about ten days hence, has put back to Mauritius damaged.
