SYDNEY, October 6. (Received October 6, 1898, at 9.20 a.m.)

Professor David, lecturing on the Funafuti coral-boring expedition, said that the general evidence pointed to the probable subsidence in accordance with Darwin's theory. He also pointed to the concurrent peripheral outgrowth, which produced the saucer-like structure of the coral rocks. But it was premature as yet, he added, to draw conclusions as to the true mode of origin of the atolls.
