THE TAYLOR MEMORIAL.

TO THE EDITOR.

Sir, —I am sure 1.0 intelligent and disinterested citizen can read ‘ The Shadow of Tammany ’ without admiring the pluck and perseverance with which Mr T. E. Taylor has followed up this subject for years, and has now laid bare the hidden workings of party it (Renee and corruption in the Police Force. It, would be difficult to imagine what greatir service any one man could render to his country, excepting, indeed, to extend the scrutiny and exposure tp other branches of cur Civil Service, and this, I believe, Mr Taylor intends to do, assisted, of course, by other workers, I am glad to see a testimonial is to be presented to Mr Taylor, as it is the only way in which his can show their appreciation of his labors on behalf of honest and pure government. I have sent my small subscription to Wellington, but, as this method is some inconvenience to most people, it occurs to me that perhaps you would be good enough to ope a a fund at your office and take charge oi small sums from grateful electors, subsequently remitting the amount to the Committee in Wellington. I feel sure, from your well-known views in favor of purity of administration, that you will approve of this movement, and also that you will realise that it is the number of subscribers and not the amount which is of importance.—l am, etc , Reform. Dunedin, October 3. [Any subscriptions forwarded to us will be duly acknowledged and remitted.— Ed E.B.]
