UNIONISM AND DISTRESS WARRANT.
TO TBI EDITOR. Sib,— Whoever informed yonr reporter that it was not tree that one of the unions in Dunedin had issued a distress warrant •gainst an ex-member and levied distress on ius goods and chattels has been “ polling your leg." The facta are briefly these: A number ot the, Painters’ Union was sued in the S M. Court for 6», being arrears of subscriptions to the union. Judgment went by default, the individual in question being out of town when the case came before Mr Oarew for decision. In due course the union took out a distress warrant, which was put in force on the 23rd nit. 1 enclose for your perusal a coot of the receipt furnished by the court bailiffs.—l am, etc., One Who Kkows. Dunedin, October 4 [We made inquiries in the proper quarter, and we were assured by the Court officials that no extreme step had been taken by any nnion in tbe way suggested by onr previous correspondent. It is now apparent that a distress warrant was issued by the Painters’ Union and enforced in due course.. The receipt of tho bailiffs reads tbns : “ Received from tbe sum of 23i, being amount of warrant in this case.” Signed by two bailiffs.— Ed. E.S.]
