A SAD CASE.
A pitiful case of domestic bereavement is reported from Ballarat East. Three weeks ago Amos Southall lost his daughter Hilda, aged four years, through diphtheritio croup, supervening upon measles, and a few days subsequently two infants (twin girls, aged one years and nine months) succumbed to the same disease, dying within twenty-six honrs of one another. Both were buried on the same day in one grave. On the following night two more deaths from diphtheritie oroup, following npon measles, occurred in the unfortunate family, the victims being Susan Southall, aged seven years, and Raymond Southall, three years of age. The two surviving members of the family have been isolated. Mr and Mrs Southall, who are disv tracted with grief, are in very poor circumstances, and for a long while they and the children have been anything but properly nourished. Southall has been idle for two years, and has only recently returned from West Australia after- a fruitless searoh for employment. Had the five children received E roper nourishment there would probably ave been a. good ohanoe of saving their lives.
