VOLUNTEER INTELLIGENCE.
The Dunedin Naval Artillery held their monthly inspection parade on Thursday evening, when the parade state was—Lieutenants Strong, Dunlop, and Paterson; 1 chief petty officer, 3 first class petty officers, 4 second class petty officers, 4 leading gunners, 1 bugler, and 45 gunners. The inspecting officer (Major Smith) expressed himself satisfied with the drill and the state of the arms, and Sergeant-major Kibblewhite then instructed the men in the latest fire control and muscle drill. A meeting was then held for the purpose of electing a Shooting Committee for the incoming season. The secretary having read the report (which was adopted), showing the oorps to have had a very successful season, the following were then elected to the Committee :—Petty Officers Mackie and Fredric, Leading Gunner Silvius, Gunners Bain, Perry, and Mnnro. The express train from Wellington to Napier ran into a oow south of Waipawa, derailing three of the carriages, but no one was injured.
