CRIME IN AUCKLAND.
One of the series of burglaries that are now bemg committed almost nightly in Auckland has taken place at the shop of Mr L. toldwater, jeweller, which was broken into and about £IS worth of clocks, brooches, and other articles were stolen! lne place is situated in Victoria street west and was locked up securely at 10 p.m., but on returning an hour later the owner found that his shop had been entered in his absence. The entrance must have been effected by means of skeleton keya, as the locks on the doors and windows were intact. Charles William Henry White, a young man with numerous aliases, was committed for trial on a charge of perjury in swearing at the Supreme Court to the effect that with the exception of twenty-four hours' imprisonment at Timaru, he had never at any time been imprisoned in the colony, and that he was not arrested for maiming a t °«r'n- ndwaß no * convicted of the offence at Wellington, and that he never served a. sentence of twelve months' imprisonment for maiming a horse, or for anything whatever.
