DIRECT MAIL SERVICE. • i Wednjestmy, August 18. The direct steamer Gothic will leave Lyttelton for Plymouth via Rio de Janeiro on Thursday, 19th. Mails close here as under:— For the Usited Kingdom and foreign countries, etc., on Wednesday, at 10 a.m. Money orders at 9.15 a.ro., books and newspapers at 9 a.m. . ! • ■ Late letters, bearing an additional single rate of postage (2Jd) as a late fee, can be posted in the mail van attached to the North train, leaving Dunedin railway station at 11 a.m. on the 18th. The above mail will close at the branch Post Offices, North Dunedin and South Dunedin—for money orders and registered letters at 5 p.m. on the 17th, letters at 9.30 a.m., and njwspapers at 5 a.m. on the 18th. At the Port Chalmers Oiuce at: 845 a.m. on the 18th ; money orders a". 4 p.m. and registered letters at 5 p.m. on the 17tn.| Parcels mail for the United Kingdom, etc., per Gothic, will close at 9.30 a.m. Mails for Cromarty, Puysegur, and Tuanaroa will close at Invercargill on the 19th inst., at 3 p.m. _ Mails for Noumea close at Sydney on the 20th inst. „ M si ,a for South Africa close at Melbourne on the 20th. .
