CAIRO, August 12. Abu Hamed was garrisoned by 1,000 dervishes. Twenty-one of the Egyptian force were killed, and sixty-one wounded during the attack. The dervish. cavalry made repeated charges right up to the bayonet's point, half of them being killed. Only 200 of the garrison escaped, and their commander was captured. The Khalifa is reinforcing his followers at Metemeh.

The gunboats are now passing the fourth cataract on the Nile.
