PATIENTS AND PRISONERS' AID SOCIETY.
TO THE EDITOR. Sm,---As one who has watched the progress of this society, and who is acquainted with the large amount of good it renders, I hope that at the approaching yearly meeting those in charge of the society will be able to report favorably of the support which the public have given it. No doubt demands recently have been for subscriptions for the Victoria Ward, but the claims of this society should not for this reason be neglected. As an occasional collector I know how unreasonable some people aro m neglecting to pay their subscriptions, although they are well able to do so. They expect a collector to call time after time, even though he may be doing the work gratuitously. I could give a list of persons well able to give, but who annoy the collector by either delaying to give or giving so grudgingly as to render it posilively painful to take anything. I hope that the efforts/ now put forth for this society will be successful, and that our churches will also respond liberally.—l am, etc.. Constant Subscriber. Dunedin, August 11.
