President M ‘Kiulcy has under cousideration the question of annexing Hawaii to the United States. The Launceston City Council have voted £2,000 for the erection of city baths. The collection in a Wairarapa church the other Sunday night amounted to 3d ! There are at present 16,529 books in the Wellington Public Library, of which 9,529 books are in the reference department and 7,000 in the lending department. Last week Mr Fullerton, late manager for Wright, Heaton, and Co., at Ravenswood, Queensland, was cut to pieces on Ihe railway line by a train at Charleis Towers. The Full Court at Melbourne have decided that a woman who overlaid her child while under the influence of drink was not guilty o' negligence constituting manslaughter. It is perhaps a fact worth knowing that jurymen who have served at a criminal seas on are not compelled to serve again for a period of twelve mouths. At Wellington a c< mmon juryman was excused on this ground last week. Archbishop Redwood says that the legislation of the past lew years has done much to improve the condition of the Irish people.
