SPORTING INTELLIGENCE.
D.J.C. COMMITTEE,
The monthly meeting of the D.J.C. Committee, held last evening, was attended by Messrs Stephenson (in the chair), Taggart, Meenan, Fleming, Miller, Short, Cook, Solomon, Maclean, and Gourley. An application from the St. Patrick's Day Demonstration Committee for the use of the park for sports on the 17th of March was granted at a fee of £lO, the Works Committee to arrange details. A letter from Mr James Allen, captain Naval Artillery, thanking the club for the use of the park for their camp, was received. Arthur Godfrey applied for a grant from the distressed jockeys' fund, stiting that he was kicked while riding at Tapinui.—The sum of £5 was granted. A couple of transfers were passed, and a report received from Mr Barr as to the progress of the formation contracts at the new course at Wingatui.
TARANAKI RACES. The concluding events at New Plymouth yesterday resulted thus : H-\ck Hurdles, of 50 sovs. One mile ami a-half.-Madeline (10.8) 1, The Friar (10.10) 2, Hcadford (11.2) 3. Fireworks got home a head in front of Madeline after a grand finish, but a protest on the ground of crossing was sustained, and the race awarded to the mare. Time, 2min 51 4-ssec. Dividend, £4 (is Autumn Handicap, of 200 sovs. One mile and a-quarter.-St. Paul (8.7)1, Doris (7.12) 2, Merry Maid (6.11) 3. Also started : Lorelei, Wamku, Angler, Crimson Streak, Pyroxylin, and Quicktiro. The finish was between Doris and St. Paul, a dingdong struggle up the straight resulting in a shortlength victory for St. Paul. Time, 2min 10 2-osec. Dividend, £3 9>. ~ . ,„ „ Farewell Handicap, of 50 ovs.—kanaka ( ( .o) 1, Crimson Streak (7.10) 2, Donovan (ti.lo) 3. These were the only starters. \Von by a neck, after an exciting finish. Time, lmin 44sec. Dividend, £2 7s.
Bowshot won the Hack Race, paying £l9 ii ; and Unknown the Pony Handicap, paying £1 17s.
At the Christchurch regatta at Stewart Gully, on the Waimakariri, yesterday, Wellington won the Senior Fours; Union the Maiden Double Sculls, with Wellington second ; Canterbury the Junior Fours, with Star second; Union the Double Sculls ; Wellington the Maiden Fours, with Canterbury second and Timaru third ; Canterbury the Ladies' Plate Fours ; and Wellington the Youths' Pair 3, with Y.M.C.A. second.
